Over the past decades the Dutch oil and gas industry has built a substantial network of infrastructure. It consists of wells, platforms and pipelines offshore, and wells, process facilities and pipelines onshore. Currently, the majority is in use for the production and transportation of oil and gas. As the oil and gas fields reach the end of their economic life, the industry is responsible for the safe and environmentally responsible decommissioning.

At the same time the Netherlands is facing an immense challenge to meet the targets to reduce our CO2 footprint and to make the transition towards a sustainable energy system. In some cases there may be opportunities to re-use existing infrastructure to help new renewable industries. If this helps to accelerate the energy transition then these opportunities should not be missed. Nexstep will help to investigate these opportunities and facilitate collaboration between stakeholders.
